Exploring Personal Reflection Outdoors biyproject.co.uk © 2010

Exploring Personal Reflection Outdoors invites people to experience new skills, value new and old ways of looking at things and recognise positive role models within ourselves.

In an outdoor setting, it focuses on creating memories, posing questions and setting seeds for change.

Benefits for people taking part

The workshops encourage people to:

  • Learn some outdoor skills
  • How to reflect, what it means and feels like, just being quiet
  • Reading emotions and expressing them in ways that feel comfortable
  • Relaxing within yourself and accepting yourself as you are

Who might get value from this?

It was originally aimed at men, but there is now a choice of attending single or mixed gender days. The days are all the same but the experience of attending single or mixed gender days is different:

For men – Freedom and permission to explore and play in a non-judgemental environment, including using traditional tools.

For women – A chance to experience a ‘male day’, and maybe connect with or explore a different side of yourself.

Mixed groups and organisations – a safe and informal place to explore being you.

Shape of the day

This is a day event with freedom to move between and choose activities to suit you; there are 4 themes:

  • Doing, making things and using them
  • Talking and storytelling around camp fires
  • Connecting with the surroundings/environment
  • Self worth, physical/ emotional/the whole person

We share a leisurely lunch during which everyone helps prepare, serve and clean away. Activities start again after lunch before collectively rounding off the day.
